Overview

Dr. Meredith Stevens is an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program and a proud 2013 graduate of the University of North Georgia DPT program. With a longstanding commitment to both clinical practice and professional education, Dr. Stevens began contributing to the program as a part-time instructor in 2024 before transitioning into a full-time academic role in 2026. She maintains active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), reflecting her ongoing engagement in advancing the profession.

Clinically, Dr. Stevens has devoted her practice to pediatric physical therapy since 2013, developing specialized expertise in hippotherapy and aquatic therapy to support functional outcomes and participation in children with diverse needs. In addition to her pediatric focus, she also provides care for adults with special needs, supporting continuity of care across the lifespan. Her scholarly work focuses on improving rehabilitation strategies for pediatric populations, with research centered on the application of whole-body vibration and its therapeutic potential, as well as outcomes related to anoxic brain injury in children. Her current investigative interests explore the emerging role of photobiomodulation (laser therapy) in addressing neural inflammation, particularly in individuals with autism spectrum disorder and cerebral palsy.

Within the academic setting, Dr. Stevens plays an active role in shaping student development through teaching and coordination across the integrated clinical education series. Her instructional contributions include the pediatric curriculum, Basic Examination, and Professional Socialization II, with an emphasis on fostering clinical reasoning, professional identity, and evidence-based practice among future physical therapists.
