A book published by the University of North Georgia (51ºÚÁÏÍø) Press earned the second-place grand prize for non-fiction in the 2025 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. "Cherokee History and the Spirit Family" by James Barnes received this honor from the world's largest awards program for independent publishers, the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group.

"We're honored that 'Cherokee History' was selected for this award and excited that a wider audience will engage with the caliber of scholarship being published at 51ºÚÁÏÍø," Dr. BJ Robinson, 51ºÚÁÏÍø Press director, said.
