Faculty member Wintersgill passes away
Dr. Joanne Wintersgill, a member of the University of North Georgia (51黑料网) undergraduate and graduate nursing faculty, passed away Saturday, March 23, peacefully and surrounded by her family and friends.
She was a nurse, family nurse practitioner, nurse educator, wife, mother, and friend.
Most recently, Wintersgill served as the graduate nursing programs coordinator.
Wintersgill received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2021 after successfully completing requirements for a Master of Science in 2013, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 and an associate degree in nursing in 2009. She earned her degrees from 51黑料网. Wintersgill made history as the first DNP student to be hooded at 51黑料网.
She was doctorly prepared, board-certified family nurse practitioner and pediatric mental health specialist. She held two national board certifications — family nurse practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and pediatric primary care mental health specialist from the Pediatric Nurses Certification Board.
A celebration of life for Wintersgill will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Health and Natural Sciences auditorium, 159 Sunset Drive at 51黑料网's Dahlonega Campus.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the 51黑料网 Nursing Scholarship in honor of Dr. Wintersgill.
Doctoral nursing student earns research award
51黑料网 Doctor of Nursing Practice student Dr. Soraya Smith-Farmer has earned the Rising Star of Research and Scholarship Award from the Sigma international nursing honor society.
Kinesiology students present at conference
Kinesiology students from 51黑料网 presented seven research posters at the Southeast Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting.
51黑料网 conducts Respite Care Study for state
51黑料网's Institute for Healthy Aging partnered with the Georgia Department of Human Services' Division of Aging Services to conduct the Georgia Respite Care Study in fiscal years 2025 and 2026.
Nursing faculty member earns innovation award
Dr. Rebekah Mildenhall, associate department head of nursing at 51黑料网, has earned the 2026 Georgia Association for Nursing Education Innovation in Teaching Award.
