Three receive study abroad grants

51黑料网 students Melena Appling, Edleen Henriquez, and Susana Olivo Sandoval received funding from CIEE to study abroad in 2022 or 2023.

University of North Georgia (51黑料网) students Melena Appling, Edleen Henriquez, and Susana Olivo Sandoval have earned grants from the  (CIEE). Appling received a $6,000 , reducing her program fee to half, allowing her to participate in the Open Campus program in London and Rome during fall 2022. Appling is a junior from Buford, Georgia, pursuing a degree in communications with a concentration in public relations.

Henriquez and Olivo Sandoval each will receive $1,500 to use for study abroad in summer 2022, fall 2022 or spring 2023. The grants are awarded to qualified applicants not selected for the . The Global Fellows program explores the impact that effective leaders have had on social justice movements and critical peace and conflict resolution efforts around the world. Henriquez is a senior from Hoschton, Georgia, pursuing a degree in international affairs. Sandoval is a senior from Gainesville, Georgia, pursuing a degree in modern languages with a concentration in Spanish language and literature.  

"We are encouraged by the positive response we've received from students as we restart education abroad programming with our overseas partners. These students are a great example of resiliency and hard work," Daniela Martinez, associate director of the Center for Global Engagement, said. "They have all spent time researching programs and applying for funding to make these experiences possible. It is great to see their hard work pay off."
