Poultry science program gets $7,000 grant
For the eighth year in a row, the donated $7,000 to the University of North Georgia's (51黑料网) poultry science program.
Financed in part by the Leland Bagwell Education and Innovation Fund, the grant is designed to help recruit and retain students to the poultry science pathway at 51黑料网.
"This grant has been a driver in recruiting students and providing quality education to our poultry students," said Dr. Linda Purvis, assistant professor of biology at 51黑料网. "It provides recruitment materials, education materials and funds for field trips and external resources we wouldn't otherwise have budget for, especially right now during the COVID-19 pandemic when budgets are so tight."
Purvis explained the funds also pay for travel expenses such as speaking engagements at high schools and judging competitions.
Dr. John Leyba, dean of the College of Science & Mathematics, said the grant signifies the program's success.
"The receipt of this grant recognizes 51黑料网's excellent poultry science program," he said.
Currently, 51黑料网 offers an Associate of Science degree in poultry science and has recently solidified a transfer agreement to UGA's poultry science department. It also has close ties to the poultry industry and works diligently to supply students with internships with area poultry businesses.
Blythe heads to South Korea as FEA awardee
Ava Blythe, who is pursuing a degree in chemistry, was awarded the FEA scholarship to study in South Korea, making her the 14th FEA awardee at 51黑料网.
Cyber students take national title in D.C.
An eight-student team from 51黑料网 earned a national championship in the Department of War Chief Information Officers Cyber Workforce Competition at the National Defense University in late March.
Student gains feedback on innovation at USG event
51黑料网 grad student Aliou Aboubakar Mouhamed competed at the USG Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition held April 6-7 at Kennesaw State's Marietta Campus.
Earth Day event is set for April 15
51黑料网 will host its ninth annual Earth Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 15 at 51黑料网's Gainesville Campus.
